South
Beach Diet
The South Beach Diet was created by Dr Arthur Agatston who is a
trained cardiologist.
He designed it to work in harmony with the body to make it safe
and effective. The South Beach Diet (SBD) is different from other
diets in that there are three phases to it and the final phase of
it is designed to last for life. The SBD concentrates on providing
the right carbohydrates and fats for healthy nutrition and promises
weight loss of up to 12 pounds in just two weeks.
The SBD is popular because it does not involve any calorie counting
or small portions and allows people to lose weight while still eating
normal sized, tasty meals that do not leave them feeling hungry.
There are three phases to the SBD and the first lasts for two weeks
and is the most restrictive about what you can and can’t eat. In
the first phase all carbohydrate intake is restricted and emphasis
is placed on lean meats such as turkey, chicken and fish. Low GI
vegetables are allowed as are low fat cheese, nuts and eggs. During
the first phase dieters can expect to lose between 8-12 pounds.
During the second phase some of the previously banned foods are
reintroduced and weight loss is between 1-2 pounds per week. People
remain in this phase till they have achieved their desires level
of weight loss.
The third phase of the diet is concerned with weight maintenance
and is designed to last a life time. The SBD is very popular because
of its emphasis on life time weight control and healthy eating.
Other diets that are popular at the moment include the zone diet,
the atkins diet, weight watchers and medifast diet plans. A list
of diets, diet names and diet plans is available from many websites.
