The cabbage soup diet is a good way to lose weight if you like cabbage soup and think that you can live on a very bland diet for a week.

On the cabbage soup diet you are limited to a small number of foods and as much cabbage soup as you think you can stand. The other foods that you can eat are some fruits and vegetables and a small amount of meat every other day.

There is no particular secret to the cabbage soup diet it works because it is very low in calories-800 to 1000 calories each day. The daily recommended calorie intake for a woman is between 1800-2000 calories each day.

The cabbage soup diet has been criticised by experts for being a short term fix that is lacking in nutrition and variety. Also a large part of the weight loss will be water weight and not fat.

Other fad diets that are similar to the cabbage soup diet are the zone diet, the 3 day diet, the grapefruit diet, the south beach diet, the blood type diet and the atkins diet plan. All of these are fad diets to one degree or another but some are more nutritionally balanced than others.

The cabbage soup diet is a good way of achieving short term weight loss but it does not offer any advice on exercise, changing your behaviour towards food or changing any bad habits you may have. It is fine for what it is but to achieve lasting weight loss permanent changes need to be made to eating habits and exercise levels.
