Breakfast
– The Most Important Meal Of The Day?
As a youngster, do you remember your Mum insisting that you had
to eat breakfast before going to school? As usual, Mum knew best
– breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. So why
do so many of us go without? Probably for that extra few minutes
sleep before facing the day ahead.
And yet, missing breakfast in almost all cases leads to overeating.
Remember, you probably have not eaten for around 12 hours at breakfast
time. If you eat nothing until lunch, that’s around 17 hours. Then
of course, because you’re starving, you either overeat or eat the
wrong sort of food to satisfy the hunger.
Studies have proved over and over again that people who eat a good,
hearty, healthy breakfast in the long term are slimmer and able
to maintain their weight.
So, what are the best foods to eat for breakfast? Without doubt,
one of the best is oatmeal (porridge) made with water with added
fruit. Eggs and low fat yoghurt are also good. ‘Aerated’ cereals
such as Rice Krispies are not so good because they are not as filling.
